19 November, S1 - Year 11 Ex2*

Title: Area, Perimeter (including compound shapes)
Challenge Question
What could be the dimensions of a rectangle which has an area of 10m2?

To be able to calculate the area of a rectangle using the formula A = lw

Developing
To be able to recall and use the formula A = ½ bh to find the area of a triangle.

To be able to demonstrate how to calculate the area and perimeter of compound shapes.

Area of a triangle
Introduce the idea of finding the area of a triangle. Remember this is all about multiplying the base by the height (at right angles to the base) AND then dividing the answer by 2.

We are now going look at compound shapes. These are shapes that can be broken down into simpler shapes to allow you to calculate the area.
