Follow the links to WolframAlpha.com below to investigate (by changing numbers) the shape of the different graphs:
y = x^2 , y = 2x^2, y=3x^2
y = x^2 , y = (x + 2)^2, y=(x - 1)^2
y = x^3 , y = 2x^3, y=3x^3
y = x^3 , y = (x + 7)^3, y=(x - 4)^3
