Lesson
Title: Further graphs and functions
Challenge Question
What are the characteristic shapes of different functions and how can we sketch them?

Learning Targets
Developing
Draw, sketch, recognise graphs of simple cubic functions, the reciprocal function.

Mastering
Draw, sketch, recognise graphs of  trigonometric functions y = sin x and y = cos x

Resources

Developing

Introduce an example of a cubic function and highlight how to plot the graph (same method as quadratics etc).
Ten Tick 7-8, 3, pages 33-34

Now move on to look a reciprocal functions.

Ten Ticks 7-8, 3, pages 35-36
MEP 13, page 21

Guide students to recognise the properties of different graphs:
Ten Ticks 7-8, 3, page 37
MEP 13, page 21

Mastering
We will now look at Trigonometry Function and their graphs.
MEP 4, page 34

Title: Trigonometry
Challenge Question
Which rules will you need to recall to solve triangle puzzles?

Learning Targets
Beginning
To be able to use SOHCAHTOA in 2D and 3D and in complex real life situations.

Developing
To the able to use the Sine and Cosine rules in context.

Mastering
To be able to know recall and use trigonometric identities.

Resources

Over the next three lessons you will be working through Pages 121-168 in the Additional Maths Text book.

Focus today on page 127-136

Along the way there will challenges for you to solve.
